Birthday Party Update

I have been using every spare moment to piece together the plans for our son's first birthday party this weekend, which has also prevent me from properly blogging...

I love throwing parties, but the days leading up to it are always full of anxiety for me. I just get nervous about everything being perfect and NOT FORGETTING ANYTHING...

For the most part, things are coming together well. Slower than I'd like since having an 11-month old trailing behind unplugging the vacuum and overturning wastebaskets isn't helping, but ah well, that's life these days...

We've invited a very exclusive set of only his most fabulous and coolest baby friends and their parents. It's true, there's going to be a body guard at the door to turn away the fat and ugly ones... Just like Studio 54.
hehe.

We've also invited our favorite adult friends and, of course, our families. In spite of getting the date and time wrong and missing the part where they have to pick up the cake, my parents and sisters have promised to be there... it's the "on time" part that worries me.

I've been gathering and taking inventory of our serving ware, paper plates, plastic forks, and such. I even raided stuff from my parents house. I also bought a helium tank for balloons and enlisted the help of my sister and her boyfriend to decorate. Since this IS a kids' party, the food should be fairly easy. No flexing my gourmet muscle here, just simple, elegant, and kid-friendly, right?

Wrong, I've revised the menu five times already and it's not even for a major meal. It's in the afternoon, so we're talking snacks here... Argh! I'm probably over thinking everything, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't...

Whenever I feel myself freaking out, I just remind myself, "hey, it's one-year old birthday party... if everything isn't a disaster by the time that everyone gets here, it will be by the time they leave."

Then, I just simplify, simplify, simplify...

After all, the theme of the party is "Are you having any fun?". I even put together a goody bag of fun things for each of the kids- complete with a CD of some playtime tunes, a happy face beach ball, and bubbles.

What's more fun than BUBBLES? I'm excited already!!!

I should probably mention that my son's playgroup is also having a party for him, but not until after Easter. It's at my house too and the guest less will consist of SIX boys ranging from a year old to three. By the time that rolls around, I'll be a pro...

...and if not, at least I'll have all the proper party supplies.

Wish me luck and my son a Happy Birthday.

Hellooooo party planning twin. I obsess over minute details as well.

"The round bowl....or the square???"

Nobody cares except me. And, in the end, I'm happy knowing that I threw a better party than anyone else would. And isn't THAT where the satisfaction is?? I am so mean.
