One for the baby books

My son had his very first temper tantrum. The rolling on the floor, the screaming, the inconsolable wailing... yup, that's the one. At his nine month check-up, my pediatrician warned me that this would happen. "Between now and his next visit, he will have a tantrum," she said. I smiled and nodded, but thought, "yeah, whatever. Not my sweet angel".

Typically, he's a super mellow kid. He basically only cries when something is really wrong. Otherwise, he stays pretty calm and happy. Did I think he would suddenly fall apart and burst into tears anytime soon? NO.

The doc didn't have any additional forewarnings... not how, not when, not why. Just that it would happen and I should be prepared to just ignore him when it did".

This past weekend, he awoke from a nap and unprovoked, the tantrum was unfurled. With no warning and no apparent reason why... It just happened just as Miss Cleo, er the doctor predicted.

...so what did I do? Only EVERYTHING, I wasn't supposed to. I panicked and just rocked him in my arms, making every vain attempt to distract him with toys... music... tv...At one point, I may have even offered to buy him a car. ANYTHING just so he would stop the wailing...but the tantrum just went on.

I supposed I was lucky that this happened at home and not in public. Yeah, I'm sooooo lucky.

It will be known in the baby books as the day he became a TODDLER
