On this afternoon's episode of Dr.Phil, he and four other doctors opened the show with a round table of various controversial medical topics from celebrity rehab to older women having babies to WET NURSES.
Yes, wet nurses like you read about in books about the middle ages...
While this practice certainly has not invaded my social circle (Trust me, I would have told you all about it if it had), it's apparently cropping up and gaining popularity in others...
I believe breast milk is best, but letting...nay, asking someone else to breastfeed my child is way too crunchy, munchy,"hello,we-live-in-a-commune" granola for me. Not to mention, it's something I personally would be COMPLETELY uncomfortable with!
I can somewhat understand the thinking. If someone really doesn't want to give their child formula, except can't breastfeed on their own, there are other options. The one mentioned on Dr. Phil was milk banking.

If you're interested, check out the post on The Lactivist for a transcript of the conversation and various pro-breastfeeding op-eds.
Please feel free to weigh in on the debate here too. I'd like to gather some options on the topic myself.
