Beside my desk is a shoe box full of cards from Christmas '06. On top of that, there is another box filled with cards from Christmas '07...I've put aside the favorites. If it's handmade, especially personal, from Grandma D, or just really funny, I keep it. Anything that shows no more effort than being stamped and sealed gets "boxed".
Christmas letters are tossed immediately. If we do more than exchange cards at the holidays, I already know what's in it. If not, then I really don't care what you're up to, now do it? Harsh I know, but I'm a busy person...
But what about the rest... like the photos of the kiddos and cute babies. I feel bad about tossing those, but I REALLY need to do something about these boxes. They can't just keep piling up year after year!
What do you do with all of those Christmas cards once Christmas is over? Any creative solutions out there...

There are places you can donate them but I don't think that works for those photo cards. I always feel bad chucking those too!
YOu know I have moved and gone through the major purge...I hate to say, I just toss'em
I don't keep many of them. They sit in a pile next to my fridge until a period of time has elapsed (which is different each year) and then they get tossed. I feel guilty but I don't have room to store others cards.
I keep pictures of family, and any other "special cards". Everything else gets tossed.
And don't even get me started on those cards that come with printed labels and no signature inside...can't people atleast sign their name anymore? It's make the whole season seem impersonal to me...ah, maybe I'll blog about it...
The personal ones like photo cards you could keep in festive photo albums and only get them out to sit around at the holidays. As for the others, I cut out any cute little image that is on the front and glue it to a piece of cardstock. Then you write to and from on the back and waa laa you have a handmade gift tag for next year's christmas presents that people think you spent hours slaving over. It is so easy my 7 and 8 year olds help me with it.
I toss all the cards and letters, but save the pictures and put them in a super cheap ($0.99) photo album from Michael's for the kids - they love looking at the pictures and learning about who all the people are, and we get to keep them around without taking-up too much space.
I second the gift tags. I also cut the front off, turn it over and use it as a post card next year. :)
sadly, your systems sounds like mine. I save all picture ones...that is about it. I have a cute Christmas tin that I store them in. Each year while decorating the house I can look through them, then back they go and add the new years on top. EH, I don't know what else to do with them either. If I was really crafty maybe I would use the in a scrapbook, BUT HA. That's not gonna happen.
I keep my absolute favourite one, pin it on my board for a few weeks. The rest get taken to the card recycling bins straight after Christmas. The kept card usually hits the garbage bin around March!
