My husband and I have been going back and forth on IM across two continents on how to go about preparing our London home for our two-year-old son.
(You'd think it'd be the other way around...)
The current issue in debate is where he should sleep- big boy bed or crib?
I'm just not ready for my son to be in a "big boy bed" in addition to all of the other changes in our life...
As if I won't have enough to do, I don't really need to be up a hundred times a night to walk him back to bed or worry about him wandering around the house on his own.
He currently sleeps in a crib. Sometimes it's under much protest, but at least he stays in his crib once he's put in it. I say we should keep him in a crib for as long as absolutely possible...
My husband, however, disagrees...

Hubby: Well, I think this will be a good time to transition him to a bed.Clearly, in having been away for the past six weeks, he's completely forgotten who we're dealing with...
Me: Oh?
Hubby: Yeah, we'll transition him to the bed just fine. It will take a few weeks to get him to stay in the bed, but I think he'll take to it when he's tired.
Me: Don't mean, I will have to transition him.
Hubby: No, I'll help too... We'll just have to explain it all to him
Me: Yeah well, he's not really into LOGIC these days.

Mine actually did it at 20 months to the toddler bed & about 28 for the queen. He still doesn't leave his room until I get him. I love it.
I thought we were on Easy Street with my little girl (she's 2.5) because she had no interest in trying to get out of her crib. Then, one day, she tried to climb IN it three times.
We dismantled it the next day, and she's been sleeping on just the mattress on the floor. She LOVES it. We put a kiddy-gate in her doorway at night so she won't wander the house in the dark, and it's been working great!
Good luck!!
oops. That comment above (about the kiddy-gate and my 2.5 yr old was from me.) Sorry 'bout that!
Maybe you should try? I said put the mattress on the floor and a kiddie gate up too. But on the other hand, there will be a whole lot of changes for him.
If it were me, I would try. This may be the cold turkey opportunity you use. Just tell him you forgot to pack the crib...
You're right. He's wrong. End of story. Besides, you already have a crib, you can always change your mind later. There are going to be lots of changes to deal with, don't add this to the mix.
Your welcome for my unsolicited, bossiness.
ah men, gotta love them. I love that they say they will 'help' with it, when we all know that the mother will always end up doing it herself.
Too many changes at the one time, may not be great for the little one. Settling into a new country and house may be all needs to deal with.
I hear you on it being your project...and your sleep deprivation. I haven't been able to do the gate them in thing. Once the gates come out, my team goes into major cry mode. If it was me...I stick to the crib. Eventually, they all go to high school, pee in the potty, and sleep in big beds...but not tomorrow;)
