Ready to PO-TTY... or maybe not

My son is barely two and half and we've already regressed with the potty training...

Earlier in the year, I bought him a picture book about going potty and he loved it.

Then, I took him to pick out a potty chair, and he loved that too. We even got to the point where he was using it on a regualr basis, which was just AWESOME.

My son may not have been the first kid in playgroup to walk. He certainly wasn't the first to talk, but by golly, he was going to be the first to PO-TTY!

(read: I am the smartest, BEST mom ever!)

Then, we had to mess everything all up by MOVING to England...

Potty training just went to the wayside as we coped with jet lag and the "big boy bed". He's been though so much these past few months and for that reason, I haven't pushed it. I figured, he was ready once and he'll be ready again, right?

Well, lately he's gotten really adept at telling me when he's gone in his diaper and as far as I can tell, he seems rather disgusted by it. He yells out in complete distress, "Mommy! Daddy! Poopy! Poopy!"

So the other day, I casually asked him, "Why don't you just go in your special potty?"

He looked at me and with all seriousness replied, "Mommy. TOO FAR!"

Really. How could I argue with that?

Conversations of the Chronically Uncool

Hubby: Hey, Honey, this is probably going to sound weird, but...

Me: Uh-oh.

Hubby: What does "shorty" mean?

Me: Seriously?

Hubby: Yeah, I've been hearing it on the radio a lot lately and was just wondering what it means. Do you know?

Me: Well... umm... I don't know for certain, but I surmise it means "girlfriend" or something like it.

Hubby: Oh okay. That makes sense. Thanks!

*Sigh* I miss the days when were used to debate politics or argue about who's career was more important and thereby justifying a hypothetical out-of-state move...

Battling it Out...Online

Our dinner conversation tonight....
Hubby: Oh, I'm just warning you. I'm on a bit of a tirade on the Internet at the moment...

Me: Why? Are you fighting with someone on the Internet?

Hubby: No. I've been in some discussions with some guy in Italy about Open Source. Well, he started it by saying...

Me: OMG! And you ARE fighting on the Internet!

Hubby: Maybe...

Me: (shaking head sorrowfully) You're no better than those teen queens that rag on each other in MySpace.

How pathetic is this?

I asked my husband to pick up a party menu from Baja Fresh on his way home. Well, for one reason or another he couldn't stop by this week, so I suggested that we just drop by some time this weekend...
Hubby: Okay, so when are we going to Baja Fresh? Lunch on Saturday?

Me: It'll have to be a late lunch, I have yoga at noon...

Hubby: Hmm... well, we can go Sunday for lunch?

Me: What about Saturday night?

Hubby: Don't we have plans for Saturday night?

Me: Nope. We can go, but will that be enough time to get to all the chores and errand done?

Hubby: Sure, but we probably won't get to... What about Sunday?

Me:
Only if we cancel... and get to church early or go on Saturday evening, but then we can't... Wait, are we ACTUALLY planning our whole weekend around when we can go to Baja Fresh?

Hubby: Maybe.

In other dinner conversation

Mommy Friend: My scar from that surgery still hasn't healed very well

Doctor Friend: Really, you should have a plastic surgeon look at it...

Mommy Friend: A plastic surgeon! How am I going to find a plastic surgeon?

Hubby: Uh, we live in Dallas. Throw a rock.

Poor Daddy. We love you.

Son: Maaaaa-ma

Hubby: No, I'm Daddy. Can you say Daddy?

Son: Mama

Hubby: Dah-dee

Son: Maaaa-ma

Hubby: Come on, you can say it. Daddy. Daaaah-deeeee

Son: Mama, Mama, Maaaaa-ma

Me: Who's your favorite, Son?

Son: Mama (smiles at me)

Me: That's right.

This devotion and total adoration can't last forever, might as well enjoy it while I can... hehe

Apparently, London has terrible phone service

My parents and sisters are enjoying Spring Break in London...without me (pouting).

They've called me once since they've been there and I happened to be signing up my son for Gymboree at the time. This is how our conversation went:

Mom: Hi, where are you?

Me: Hi, Mom! How... oh wait, Son, stop eat that shoe. It's not yours... Hey Mom, I kind of have my hands full right now. Can you call me back in fifteen minutes? I'm trying to watch the baby and fill out some forms.

Mom: No.... no, we can't. We're in London.

Me: ummm...

Mom: Wait, your Dad wants to speak with you.

Me: Son, stop it... Mom, wait. Okay, I'm going to have to call you later.

Dad: Hey, how are you and the boy doing?

Me: uh, fine, Dad... oh, just one sec, Dad. Son! No, stop. Come here.

Dad: Hello?

Me: Hi Dad.

Dad: Hello?

Me: Dad.

Dad: Oh hi, we're in London.

Me: I know. How is it?

Dad: Wait your sisters would like to say something to the baby. Put your son on the phone...

Me: I can't right now, Dad, but...

Sister: Hello?

Me: (sigh) Hi, sis.

Sister: Hello? Are you there?

Me: Yes, I'm here. Hi.

Sister: We're in London.

I know.

I know.
I KNOW...

Points for Effort

Hubby: What's your favorite type of rose these days?

Me: favorite rose?

Hubby: Yeah. When we were dating, you had a favorite rose. I was just wondering if it's still...

Me: Roses? I would be happy if you weeded the lawn and gave THAT to me in a box with a bow

Hubby: Really?

Me: Yes, my standards for romance are just that low these days...

Hubby: ha ha ha ha

Me: No really, go weed the lawn.

Hubby: Crap!

Time to switch detergents

Hubby: Eww, I think there's a cold spot on my shirt.

Me: What do you mean 'a cold spot'?

Hubby: I think I leaned over the sink while I was washing dishes and my shirt got a little wet. Now it feels cold.

Me: Or maybe your shirt is haunted.
