That birthday party for our niece that I mentioned earlier

Well, we DID get invited after all. We received an invitation on Wednesday for the party on Saturday.

Yeah... did I mention that we live three hours away from my in-laws and it requires a little more notice than that for us to be able to make the trip.

Talking to my mother-in-law this week, I was very careful not to make a big deal about not being invited. After all, it wasn't her doing and I didn't really expect her to do anything about it. I just casually mentioned that we weren't planning to drive up this weekend, because "oh, gee, we didn't know that's when the party was planned".

Knowing her, she probably called my sister-in-law immediately to confront her. (he he he)

The invitation was addressed to our son and postmarked the NEXT day... very suspicious, indeed.
